Conference: Society for the Advancement of Scandinavian Studies

When: April 30- May 2, 2009.
Over three hundred Scandinavianists attended the 99th Annual Conference of the Society for the Advancement of Scandinavian Study in Madison this spring. The three-day event included 70 panel sessions covering a wide range of topics including Nordic literature, art, history, philosophy, and music, public policy, post-colonial studies,translation studies and Nordic language teaching standards. The welcome address was given by Tom Loftus, former US Ambassador to Norway (1993-1997) and the keynote address was given by Sami film director Nils Gaup, whose recent film The Kautokeino Rebellion was shown at Madison's Orpheum Theater as part of the Conference.
